New version of VU - Features PDF Print E-mail

inVisu inc. is proud to announce the version 4.2 of VU. Apart from the innovative use of programmable graphics cards (GPU), this new version of VU offers the following new features:

  • Complete support of 31 interpolating functions;
  • New and more friendly user-interface;
  • Coloring by bands;
  • Threshold, to cut very precisely at a pixel scale;
  • Smoothing of surfaces across the edges of the elements;
  • Curved isolines, instead of line segments, to represent precisely the interpolating function used;
  • New types of illumination (Phong, Gooch) with Fresnel effect;
  • Improvement of the rendering of streamlines: illuminated lines, dashed lines, choice of the direction;
  • Calculation of streamlines with the Runge-Kutta method;
  • Use of impostors (pregenerated images) for vectors and particles, to improve fluidity and rendering, when they are in large numbers;
  • Version for Mac OS Intel;
  • etc.

The new version of VuChem also offers these new features. A particular care was paid to the rendering of atoms, for example by the use of impostors (pregenerated images) to improve fluidity and atom rendering, when they are in large numbers. We also work closely with the deMon team for a close integration between deMon2k and VuChem.

VU is a scientific visualization software created in 1995. Since then, it has always been at the forefront of the use of new technologies: use of OpenGL graphics library (1995), client/server system (1995), support of Linux (1996), stereo display mode (1997), use in virtual reality immersion environments (1998), voice commands (2002), and, in 2008, use of programmable graphics cards.
